Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands after Tenerife. It lies in the Atlantic Ocean, about 120 kilometres from the Moroccan coast and thus is located at the same latitude as the Bahamas, Mexico and the Western Sahara. Geographically Fuerteventura belongs to Africa, politically Fuerteventura is, however, assigned to the Spanish province of "Las Palmas" - the official language is Spanish.

Fuerteventura is just like the entire Canarian archipelago being of volcanic origin. Although Fuerteventura has been flattened by erosion, the island offers interesting and picturesque natural phenomena: wide plains, rolling hills, jagged rocks, steep cliffs, black lava, volcanic caves and sandy beaches, which are among the most beautiful in Europe.

Sun and beach
Sun, sand and sea - Fuerteventura has the most of these to offer of all the Canary Islands. Fuerteventura is the island which is surrounded by white sand and turquoise sea. The climate is a subtropical desert climate. Temperatures range in the summer months from between 25 ° C - 32 ° C and in the winter months from 20 ° C - 26 ° C. The water temperatures ranges from 18 ° C and 24 ° C. So the island with an average temperature of 22 ° C throughout the year makes for a pleasant vacation destination. The beaches are perfect for beach holidays and in the interior of the island, magnificent scenery is waiting to be discovered.

Nature, hiking and water
In the northeast there are wonderful water sports and hiking opportunities around the dunes of Corralejo. On the west coast you will find tiny picturesque fishing villages. Inland there are small, quiet villages that form an oasis of tranquillity. Hikers and climbers will find in the islands interior, the protected natural peninsula and beautiful views.

By contrast, the island's capital Puerto del Rosario and Corralejo show a more urban flair. Splashes of colour here and there are provided by the tomato plantations in Tuineje and the green palm oasis of Vega de Rio Palma. The sheltered cove of Caleta de Fuste offers ideal conditions for surfers and divers. This is exactly where DEEP BLUE DIVING has pitched its tents and offers exciting dives with multifaceted insights into the underwater world.

Those who come to Fuerteventura mainly for diving, will certainly not be disappointed. Here you will find the largest selection of fish species that occurs in the South Atlantic - and more than on any other Canary Island.

Watersports are available on the island of Fuerteventura and are a major pass time. Fuerteventuras southern peninsula Jandía offers everything that makes of activities in the water fun: fishing trips, diving, speed surfing, sailing tours. The constant blowing of the trade winds always guarantee a fresh breeze.

Health
Fuerteventura is defined by dry air and a subtropical desert climate, an optimal place for allergy sufferers and asthmatics. Breathing is easier here, the quality of life improves. Numerous health treatments are offered on the island. Here, the Barceló Hotel in Caleta de Fuste offers the only Thalasso Spa on the island.

The contrast of tranquillity with action and lots of water sports combine easily on the island. Everyone will find their ideal vacation. "¡Qué fuerte aventura!" - "What a strong adventure" were the words proclaimed by conqueror Jean de Bethencourt in 1402, as he arrived on the island for the first time. And Fuerteventura really lives up to its name!
