More Informations
El Castillo/Caleta de Fuste is a small resort town in the municipality of Antigua on Fuerteventura. It has around 6,000 inhabitants and is, like the whole island, part of the Spanish province of "Las Palmas". Caleta de Fuste is located approximately 12km from Puerto del Rosario, the island´s capital. It is 7.5 km from Fuerteventura Airport. This means DEEP BLUE DIVING is only a relaxed ten minute drive away. Despite the proximity of the airport to Caleta, there is minimal noise from planes.
A charming family resort
Caleta de Fuste is considered to be the children´s paradise on Fuerteventura. Protected by a long pier, is a golden sand beach, so Playa del Castillo offers relatively risk-free bathing in calm water.
Families tend to spend their holidays here. The sprawling resort consists almost exclusively of rows of bungalows, surrounded by greenery.
Most restaurants, pubs, bars and shopping malls are in the centre. In the evening, live events can be found going on all round town.
That certain something for every taste
The marina, where our dive centre is located, exudes a unique flair. Atlantic sailing yachts and other boats regularly make port here. It is the place to smell the scent of the big wide world. It is worthwhile to stroll along the pier or to sit down for a drink on the terrace of the port building with its distinctive domed tower.
In May 2003 Fuerteventura´s first 18 hole golf course was opened close to the sea on the outskirts of Caleta de Fuste. The golf course has a par 70 Standard over a length of 6049 meters. Caleta has the perfect infrastructure in place, for example, two 5-star hotels, two four-star hotels, villas, bungalows, semi-detached houses, apartments, a movie theatre, the shopping centre Atlantico and medical care.
History
After English pirates had attacked the island in 1740, islanders set out to build a fortress to protect the port. The Castillo rises on the edge of the adjacent beach. It was built in the years 1741-1743 in the form of a round tower, which the specially contracted military architect Claudio De Lisle had designed. The tower is identical to the fortress of Cotillo. The two were never used in their defensive function, since no further attacks were reported. The tower was incorporated into the construction of resort Barceló Club El Castillo.
